What we mean by evangelistic
The gospel is news, not advice. It's the announcement that Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, was buried, and was raised on the third day (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). It's the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes. There is nothing more important a church can say, so we say it every time — clearly, in plain words, and in a way that someone who walked in for the first time can follow.
That's not a strategy for visitors. It's because believers need to hear it too. Nobody outgrows the gospel. The Christian life doesn't start with the gospel and move on to more advanced material; it starts with the gospel and goes deeper into it.
Anyone can hear it, and anyone can believe it
We believe God has revealed Himself to every person — through creation, through His Word, and finally through His Son (Psalm 19:1; Romans 1:20; Hebrews 1:1–2). We believe people have the ability to hear the gospel and believe it. You don't need something switched on in you before you can receive it; you receive the gospel, and the light comes on. You are born again after believing, not before.
That's why we preach it out loud. The gospel is the power. Our job is to say it plainly and trust God to do what only He can do.
What it looks like at TheWay
It looks like every sermon getting to Jesus, whatever book of the Bible we're in. It looks like a congregation that knows how to tell a neighbor what Jesus did, because they've heard it said simply a hundred times. It looks like a church that takes the Great Commission personally: go, make disciples, baptize, teach.
And it looks like invitation without pressure. We'll tell you the truth about Jesus every time you come. We won't corner you, chase you, or put you on the spot. And we'd love for you to hear the best news there is.
