Ferris State students
A church near campus. A place to belong, not just attend.
TheWay is a new church forming in Big Rapids, the town Ferris State calls home. We don't have a building yet — we're gathering people first. If you're a student a long way from home and deciding what you actually believe, this page is for you.
First time on your own
Nobody's making you go anymore.
For a lot of students, college is the first time church is a choice instead of a habit. Some of you grew up in it and are figuring out whether it's yours. Some of you have never been inside one. Either way, you're in a good spot: you get to decide what you believe, on purpose.
We’d love to be part of that. Not with a program aimed at your age group, but with a real church — Scripture preached plainly, the whole room singing, and people of every age who will know your name by the second week.
What you’ll find
A church, not a student ministry
One body, every age
You'll sit next to a retired farmer who has followed Jesus for fifty years and a family with a toddler. That's the point. Faith gets passed between generations, not sorted into them.
Scripture, book by book
We preach through the Bible in order, so the text sets the agenda. You'll know what's coming next week, and you'll learn how to read it yourself.
The gospel, said plainly
Every gathering, clearly enough that someone hearing it for the first time can follow it. No pressure, no cornering — just the truth about Jesus.
A gift we'll help you use
The Holy Spirit gives every believer a gift for the good of the church. Part of our job is helping you find yours — and then getting out of your way.
Rides and a table
No car? Once we have a room and a time, we'll organize rides from campus. Until then, we'll come to you — coffee, a Bible study, a meal. Church in Big Rapids should feel like being welcomed into a home, because it is.
Something for the week
Scroll is the timeless feed — a verse a day and a place to check in with your heart. TheWay Bible app is the full study tool. Both are free.
Straight answers
Questions students ask
Is there a church near Ferris State University?
There will be — that's the plan. TheWay is a new church forming in Big Rapids with Ferris students in mind. We don't have a building or a Sunday service yet; we're gathering people now in small Bible studies around town, and students are a big part of who we're hoping to see. Join the interest list and you'll hear the location and time before it's public.
Is TheWay a college ministry?
No — and that's on purpose. TheWay is a church that a lot of students will be part of, not a student ministry with a church attached. You'll be in the room with families, retirees, and kids, which is how the New Testament describes a church.
I don't have a car. How would I get there?
Once we have a room and a time, we'll organize rides from campus. Put your name on the interest list and mention you're a student — we'll make sure you have a way to get there.
I'm not sure what I believe. Can I still come?
Yes. You don't have to agree with us to be welcome, and nobody will put you on the spot. Come, listen, ask questions, and take the next step when you're ready.
Is there a Bible study for Ferris students?
Before the first Sunday, our gatherings are small Bible studies in living rooms and over coffee. Students are welcome at all of them. The interest list is how you get the invite.
